20 Questions Book Tag

Happy Friday! Today’s post is an exciting one for me, it’s my first book tag! I was tagged by the lovely Sarah at Girl On Books to answer some fun questions about books. We aren’t sure who originated this tag, but if you know the answer don’t hesitate to leave it in the comments! Let’s gooo 🏁

Questions

1. How many books are too many book in a series?

I think three is the perfect amount and anything more than five is definitely too many. 

2. How do you feel about cliff-hangers?

Omg cliffhangers literally make me go !!!!! but in a good way. This isn’t book related but Scandal is one of my favourite shows and the writers end almost all of the episodes with a crazy cliff-hanger, it’s impossible to only watch 1 episode per sitting. Cliffhangers are the best when you’re late to discovering a book series and you don’t have to wait for the next book.

3. Hardback or paperback? 

I don’t think I have a preference. Actually, paperback can be more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. But when it comes to the reading experience, hardback is always better. That still doesn’t answer the question does it? 

4. Favourite book?

I think we’ve all experienced that moment when someone asks this and you just blank and forget every book you’ve ever read. Or maybe that’s just me. I definitely can’t narrow it down. So here’s three that I haven’t talked about on my blog that I would give 5 star ratings.

5. Least favourite book?

This is a bit arbitrary, but I’m going with A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. I’m picking this because I was forced to read it during my undergrad and I distinctly remember not having a good time with it. 

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

I don’t have a ton of experience with love triangles in books. The first one that pops into my mind is Katniss Everdeen x Gale x Peeta and I was all for the messiness of that. Teenage me gives this one a yes, but current me feels pretty meh about them. 

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Number One Chinese Restaurant by Lillian Li. It wasn’t the worst book ever but I just couldn’t get into it at the time. I heard that it’s going to be turned into a TV show and I would be much more interested in watching it! 

8. A book you’re currently reading? 

I just finished reading Loveless by Alice Osman and haven’t started anything new. But my next read will be a memoir called From Bear Rock Mountain by Antoine Mountain.

9. Last book you recommended to someone? 

Ask Again, Yes by Mary Keane Beth. I gave this one 4.5 stars, check out my review here!

10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

I think it would have to be Oroonoko by Aphra Behn, originally published in 1688. 

11. Newest book you’ve read?

Dear Justyce by Nic Stone (published September 2020). This book was absolutely incredible!! I  highly recommend it whether you’ve read the first book in the duology or not. 

12. Favourite author?

Oof this is a hard one. For the last several years I’ve been reading standalones. The only author I’ve repeated recently was Cherie Dimaline and I was horribly disappointed with her latest release. It’s tricky to call someone a favourite author when I’ve only read one of their books. But some recent favourites would have to be Celeste Ng, Luanne Rice, Kate Riordan, Marlon James, and Nic Stone. 

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Borrowing, I love my local library to death! 

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

This is probably not going to go over well… *whispers* The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. I read this a few weeks before I started my blog and didn’t write a review for it. I’ve been tempted to reread it and see if I feel differently about it. But, at the same time I feel like the answer will be no, so I’m avoiding it for now. Sorry!

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Dog-ears, obviously. Just kidding, I could never.

16. A book you can always reread?

I’ve never reread a book before. That is just not how Geminis role, or at least not this one. We’re known for thriving on constant change. Although, I loved Little Fires Everywhere and I own a copy of it, so I’m just waiting for the right time to reread it

17. Can you read while listening to music?

When I was a student, the right music could keep me motivated when I was doing my academic readings. But, if I’m reading a regular book I think it’s too distracting. In reality, I’m more likely to put earplugs in so I can have complete silence!

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

 Multiple POVs, yes please!! I love having insight into two or more characters, especially when I’m reading romance.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

The more I enjoy a book, the faster I’ll try to read it! So anywhere from two to four days max. I did manage to read Dear Justyce in one day because it was THAT good, but I had to break it down into 3 sittings.
